Accessibility - National Accessibility Scheme (NAS): Mobility Level 1 Groves Dyke Holiday Cottage has been made more suitable for people with sufficient mobility to climb one flight of stairs (see also Ground Floor facilities, below). Various fixtures and fittings for people with disabilities include: Ground Floor: Support rails on both sides by the 2 steps (up) from the vehicle set-down point to the front door (about 8 paces). Conservatory and decking (all on one level) immediately outside the front door. There are 2 wooden arm chairs and a coffee table in the conservatory. The plastic table and 5 plastic chairs on the deck outside can be moved indoors or out, as the weather permits. Support rail by the 1 step (up) from the conservatory to the hall. The ground floor of the house is all on one level with no steps. The hall floor is kept free of clutter to reduce trip hazards. Shower room with: shower, shower stool, slip-resistant support rail. Toilet with slip-resistant support rail. Wash basin with lever taps. (Mobile alarm system, etc - see * below). Recliner arm chair in the sitting room. Sofa-bed in sitting room (see 'Ground Floor Facilities, below). TV / Video with Teletext and remote control in the sitting room. Full length picture windows (great views!) in sitting room and dining room. Integrated dining room / kitchen, separated by a serving bar. Larder adjoining. Adjustable perching stool in the kitchen. Sink with lever taps. Gas hob, electric fan oven and dish washer. D-handles on all kitchen cupboards. Utility room with washing machine, tumble dryer a third toilet is just outside (1 small step up from conservatory level). First Floor (*these items can also be moved downstairs, as required): Stairs: 12 steps up (banister rail on both sides) to 3 bedrooms and bathroom. Bathroom: bath with lever taps, slip-resistant support rails, bath board and bath stool, non-slip mat for inside the bath. Wash basin with lever taps. Mobile alarm* system (50 metre range). Toilet with support rail on wall; toilet frame* and booster* seat. Full length mirror in twin bedroom. Landing floor kept free of clutter to reduce trip hazards. NB: Ground Floor Facilities: The sofa-bed in the sitting room opens up to become a comfortable full-size double bed, but I am not allowed to describe this as a 'ground floor bedroom' because all bedrooms must (by English Tourist Board definition) have bedside table/s, bedside lamp/s, a chest of drawers and a wardrobe - and there just isn't room for all of those in the sitting room! Having said that, it is possible to avoid the stairs completely and still have all essential facilities on the ground floor. The bedding from the double bed upstairs can be moved downstairs on request, but the total number of people staying overnight at Groves Dyke must never exceed 5 + cot. (The cot is for 0 to 2 year olds only). Sadly, Groves Dyke is NOT suitable for wheelchairs because the doorways are just too narrow. I will be very pleased to help with any specific questions or requests you may have.
