Black Headed Gull K6 Occasionally over flies the wood. Blue Tit K7 Daily all year at the feeding station. Bullfinch K7 Monthly all year on fruit trees. Buzzard K5 Only 1 sighting, when mobbed from the leaning Ash tree by rooks. Carrion Crow K7 Seen or heard monthly in the wood or overhead. Chaffinch K7 Daily at the feeding station. Chiffchaff K6 Heard daily in summer. Coal Tit K7 Daily all year at the feeding station. Collared Dove K7 Weekly at the feeding station. Cormorant 6 Occasionally (monthly) enter my airspace from their River Esk flight path. Dunnock K7 Daily all year under the feeding station. Fieldfare K6 Weekly in winter. Eats fallen fruit and hedgerow berries. Goldcrest K7 Monthly all year in the wood and the hedges. Goldfinch K7 In autumn on the Thistle heads in the wood, occasionally at the feeding station. Goosander One winter a flock of 7 circled over the river and (accidentally) the garden, too. Great Spotted Woodpecker K6 Heard occasionally in the wood or up the drive. Great Tit K7 Daily all year at the feeding station. Greater Black Backed Gull K7 Occasionally over flies the wood or loafs in the field above. Greenfinch K7 Seen weekly at the feeding station. Heard daily in summer. Green Woodpecker K7 Heard yaffling weekly, seen monthly on the lawns. Grey Wagtail K7 Seen monthly feeding by the pond or beck. Heron K7 Heard weekly at night on the River Esk, occasionally in the garden. Herring Gull K7 Occasionally over flies the wood. House Martin K6 Nests on Groves Dyke so seen and heard daily in summer. Jackdaw K7 Seen or heard weekly overhead. Jay K7 Heard weekly and seen monthly in the wood. Kestrel K7 Seen weekly somewhere around the property. Lapwing K4 Occasionally a flock wheels high over the top fields in late summer. Long Tailed Tit K7 Monthly in summer. Daily in winter at the feeding station. Magpie K7 Seen or heard weekly throughout the year. Nests. Mallard 6 Seen occasionally in flight. Once bred in the wood when the duck and 6+ ducklings swam in the patio pond! Marsh Tit K7 Daily all year at the feeding station. Mistle Thrush K7 Heard weekly in the wood. Merlin K2 Seen once in winter dashing past the feeding station! Nuthatch K7 Seen monthly at the feeding station, heard weekly in the wood. Pheasant K7 One or two birds stray into the wood in winter from the fields above. Pied Wagtail K7 Seen monthly by the pond, the beck or back yard. Redwing K6 Daily in winter in the wood and on fallen fruit in the orchard. Robin K7 Seen daily at the feeding station. Rook K7 Seen or heard almost daily overhead. Rookery at Briggswath. Siskin K7 One or two seen on the feeders. Seasonally. Song Thrush K7 Heard daily in summer, seen weekly all year. Sparrowhawk K7 Seen weekly in wood or garden, often near the bird table. Spotted Flycatcher K3 Sadly, only one sighting in recent years... Swallow K5 Daily in summer as it hunts over the River Esk and the garden. Swift K5 Overhead monthly in summer. Nests in Sleights. Tawny Owl K7 Heard weekly, seen monthly. Noisy just before rain. Treecreeper K7 Seen monthly in the wood. Tree Sparrow K4 Seen here for the first time in Nov 2003, on the feeding station. Whitethroat K5 Heard singing weekly in the wood in summer. Willow Warbler K5 Heard daily throughout the summer. Woodcock 7 Regularly roded over the house 10 years ago, now seen about once / winter. Wood Pigeon K7 Daily at the feeding station, until chased away by Flag! Running Total: 56 (but still growing)! Mammals: Badger Seen very occasionally trundling through the wood. Bank Vole K7 Seen weekly feeding underneath the bird table. Common Shrew K7 Very occasionally seen under the feeding station. Fox Seen very occasionally trotting through the wood. Grey Squirrel K7 'Tree Rats' often try to feed at the bird feeding station (when not killing the young trees in the wood) but Flag soon sees them off! Pygmy Shrew K3 Occasionally seen briefly under the feeding station. Rabbit K7 Seen feeding in the woodyard most weeks. Roe Deer K7 Seen monthly strolling and feeding through the wood. Stoat K7 Seen occasionally in the woodyard. Weasel K7 Seen occasionally hunting through the backyard's dry stone walls.
