The House

A well built semi-detached house which sleeps a maximum of 5 adults (+ a cot) in 3 upstairs bedrooms: 1 Double, 1 Twin and 1 Single. All bedding is provided (low-allergy, so no feathers) and the duvet for each bed is a size bigger than expected. An electric hair drier is provided. Also upstairs is a large bathroom with toilet, wash basin and a big old-fashioned bath. Several mobility aids are provided to improve accessibility for elderly or disabled visitors (click here for Accessibility).

Stair-gates are permanently fitted at the top and the bottom of the stairs and can be swung aside completely if not required.

Downstairs there is a conservatory leading to a large entrance hall, a sitting room (with a colour TV with Teletext and a twin tuner video), a reclining chair and a double sofa bed and matching armchair), a shower room (with toilet and wash basin), a dining room (tableware provided), a modern fitted kitchen (with a full size electric cooker, microwave, toaster, kettle, automatic dish washer and electric iron) and a small larder off (with a full sized fridge and full sized freezer combined). The new Laundry is just outside, with family sized washing machine and tumble dryer).

In the dining room, the oak dining room table and chairs were made locally at Littlebeck (3 miles away) by Tom Whittaker. He was a craftsman known as 'The Gnome Man' because his trademark was to carve a little woodland gnome into each and every piece of furniture he made. Click here for more about him.

Fully redecorated and refurbished between 2002 and 2006 to provide downstairs facilities for the less mobile, the bedding from the double bed upstairs can be moved to the double sofa bed downstairs on request. NB: The sofa-bed is an alternative double bed (only) and is NOT for additional overnight guests.

On arrival you will receive a personal welcome and given a quick indoor tour. You will find a warm house with tea and coffee by the kettle, a pint of milk in the fridge, chocolate biscuits and a copy of the local 'Whitby Gazette' newspaper on the table, as well as a 'Groves Dyke Information Book'.
