FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions (under construction...)How do I check availability?Click on 'Dates and Prices' to see if your preferred dates are available and to find out the price. Any Special Offers?Yes! There are Special Offers for late bookings: 50% Off the list price of a one week holiday or 25% Off a Short Break (click here for details). Are you open all year? Yes. See 'Dates and Prices' for availability. Does Groves Dyke Holiday Cottage take pets? No. Groves Dyke has been developed to suit guests with various disabilities, including allergies and asthma (like me), so pets are not accepted. Please see 'More Cottages' instead, as some of these do accept pets. Does Groves Dyke Holiday Cottage provide Short Breaks? Yes, in the Low Season and possibly in the Mid Season. Please see 'Dates and Prices'. Do I need to send a Deposit? Yes. A Provisional Booking can be made by phone or by email (see 'Contact' above), then a non-returnable Deposit of £50 is required to change that into a Confirmed Booking. The balance is due 6 weeks before your arrival date. What if I pay the £50 Deposit and then have to cancel my holiday? Your £50 Deposit is non-returnable, but I will accept it for a holiday later in the same calendar year. Please click on 'Terms and Conditions'. Back to TopWhere can I find some pictures of Groves Dyke Holiday Cottage?Back to TopWhat do we need to bring?Only your towels. All bedding (EXCEPT for the cot) is provided and all beds will be made up ready for your arrival. NB: Towels CAN be provided at a charge of £7.50p per towel (NB: Free to overseas visitors). Back to TopCan Groves Dyke be reached by public transport?Yes. It is 400 metres from Sleights station (Network Rail) with 4 return trains / day from Middlesbrough (Intercity) - Sleights - Whitby. Also about the same distance from the Coastliner bus stop just before Sleights bridge. There are 4 return 'Coastliner' bus services / day from Leeds - York - Malton - Pickering - Sleights - Whitby. Given a few days notice I will be happy to meet you on arrival in Sleights and transport your baggage by car to Groves Dyke Holiday Cottage - and back again after your holiday! Back to TopWill there be anywhere to shop on arrival?Yes. If arriving on Saturday afternoon all the shops in Sleights will be open except the Post Office. Radfords Butchers for meat, pies and cooked meats, delicatessen, wine and some vegetables; the Central Stores (Spar mini-supermarket) for groceries, off-licence, frozen foods, etc and Botham's Bakery for bread, cakes, etc. See Sleights Village. Back to TopHow do you pronounce 'Sleights'? Local people pronounce it 'slights' (rhymes with flights) - not 'slates' nor 'sleets'. Just remember that 'The flights to Sleights are slightly exciting because there is no airport!' Is Groves Dyke suitable for people with disabilities? Many modifications have been made for less mobile visitors (eg: ground floor shower / toilet / basin; support rails; full size sofa-bed in the sitting room) but the 3 steps up to the front door and the standard narrow doorways make it unsuitable for adult sized wheelchairs. See 'Accessibility.' How far away is Whitby and the sea?Groves Dyke is 3 miles from Whitby, where there is a beach exposed at low tide. Groves Dyke is 4 miles from Sandsend, just North of Whitby, where the beach is available at all states of the tide. Only at low tide is it possible to walk along the beach from Whitby to Sandsend, a distance of nearly 2 miles but beware the in-coming tide! What if I have a different question?Just click on 'Contact' at the top of every page to email your question to me and I will do my best to answer in a few days. Alternatively, ask me on Tel: 01947 811404.
