Unique Walking Sticks of Whitby (formerly Character Sticks) Designed by Nature - Grown and Crafted by hand at Whitby, North Yorkshire, England Sticks, staffs, poles, priests, thumb sticks and Harry Potter-Esk magic wands, all designed by Nature without any steaming, clamping or forcing. When coppicing in the wood or hedge-laying around the property, I sometimes find a stem or a branch with an interesting shape. Put aside for a year to season, it is then sanded down and polished with a light oil to become a Unique Walking Stick, with a distinctive character of its very own. No two sticks are ever identical and hardly any of them are straight. Unique Walking Sticks of all shapes and sizes (rarely straight) are available from 'The Stickery' opposite Groves Hall on Woodlands Drive, Sleights, Whitby. The Stickery is open from 2 - 4pm most Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays (but please phone 01947 811404 to confirm before travelling specially). Sticks can be cut to length if required - but only shorter! Prices (each): Plain sticks @ £6. Fancy sticks @ £10. Ornate sticks @ £15. (Includes ferrule). £5 from the sale of each stick is donated to Macmillan Cancer Relief. A small stock of Character Sticks (for occasional use or to buy) is kept at Groves Dyke Holiday Cottage. More can be found at Dunsley Hall Hotel, Whitby and at Larpool Hall Hotel, Whitby. My thanks go to both of these hotels for displaying my sticks and for donating 100% of their sales to Macmillan Cancer Relief. August 2005 The Stickery on Woodlands Drive, Sleights re-opens following flood damage. It is open 2 to 4pm most Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays but please phone 01947 811404 to check before travelling. June 2005 I have been told that one Unique Walking Stick was taken to Glastonbury Festival this month and was much admired. Thinks: I must put a web address on each stick... 31 August 2004 A News Release issued by the Macmillan Cancer Relief office in Scarborough about supplying Unique Walking Sticks for 'The Libertine' film starring Johnny Depp and also raising over £1000, has led to a nice article and photo in the Whitby Gazette newspaper. August 2004 This month the grand total raised so far has topped £1000. Thank-you!
