Description: A short story from the heart.

Christmas From My Window
- Wintery Christmas snow outside blows
- Mommy hides her face while drying her nose
- While sitting in my chair, I sadly look down
- at my dirty nails and my torn white gown
- I watch the fancy cars turn and park
- Night stars glowing and gleam in the dark
-
- The people are all dressed in pretty clothes
- I am a little bit sad, and Mommy knows
- Mommy lights candles for us to see
- I stare at the neighbors bright Christmas tree
- The people that glitter walk up to the door
- Holding presents and happy, but what for?
-
- I looked at Mommy and said, “Can we go?”
- With tears in her eyes, she sadly replied “No”
- I looked back outside for the excitement to see
- When I noticed a man out there, staring at me!
- Mommy was pacing on the cold hard floor
- A red sweater with stains is what she wore
-
- “It’s Christmas Eve, is Santy coming tonight?”
- Mommy looked down and said, “He might”
- I made a wish list for that jolly ‘ole man
- A new pair of shoes and Mommy a stewing pan
- I’d like to have crackers and tomato soup
- a pretty new ribbon and maybe a hula-hoop
-
- I think last year I must have been really bad
- because Santa came here and took away my dad
- This year I have tried very hard, I know
- I’m thankful for my home and this pretty white snow
- I leaned up slowly as I faced the cold glass
- “Look mommy at the shiny people on the grass!”
-
- She ignored me while knitting a pair of socks
- The man was still staring as he held a small shiny box
- Mommy had a tear, I could see it in her watering eye
- I don’t care if there’s no tree, why does she cry?
- Suddenly bells started ringing somewhere outside
- My hands were too weak to glide me to see, I tried
-
- A knock at the front door echoed the wall
- I heard a deep voice say, “I need help from you all!”
- Mommy was frightened as I watched her slowly peek
- She ran over and picked me up, because I am very weak
- “Mommy, who is at the front door?, Why are you crying?”
- I know the bills are too much for Mommy, I know she’s trying
-
- The knocks become louder and my body really aches
- Mommy cracks the door and in came a million snow flakes
- A man in a long black coat stood tall on the top stair
- He looked at Mommy and then me in a long stare
- I know I’m different from the rest
- But this is my favorite gown, it’s my best
-
- In his hand, he held a big brown business folder
- Mommy invited him in, because outside it was getting colder
- He had sadness in his eye when he looked at my Mom
- “I have some news for you and your girl” he said very calm.
- “The Doctors have all agreed to bring Kathleen back,
- The tests aren’t good, please let me help you pack”
-
- Mommy went into her room and sat me down
- She said to me, “We need to change your gown”
- “Mommy, it’s Christmas Eve, what if he comes?”
- She dressed me, hugged me, and rocked me and hums..
- “You are beautiful, don’t you cry,
- Mommy’s here, your tears, I’ll dry”
-
- With our suitcase packed tight we had help into the van
- I got settled and out my window I saw that man
- The man carried the small shiny box and walked over to me
- To my surprise, I opened the gift and inside was a golden key
- “Why have you chosen me and what does this mean?”
- He smiled, “This is a gift from our Lord God, Kathleen”
-
- We hurried our way to the hospital this Christmas Eve
- Mommy said Santa Claus will come, if I just believe
- “I do believe you Mommy”, she is always right
- Mommy is waiting for the Doctor to come in tonight
- I wait patiently in my bed and I’m all alone now
- Maybe I can stay up really late, if Mommy will allow
-
- It’s hard to keep my eyes open, it’s really, really late
- I close my eyes and dreamt of a an angel at a closed gate
- She said her name was Leah and she was waiting for me
- And she asked me for the gift from God, the golden key
- Luckily I had slipped it away deep in my new fur coat
- When I dug deep, I found the key along with a note
-
- The note read, “Kathleen, you will always be my in my heart,
- We’ve always been together, however, today we must part”
- Looking over in the distance, the glittery people were there dressed in
lace!
- All in the Christmas attire, I felt sad and a bit out of place
- Until I looked down and saw that I was no longer wearing my torn white
gown
- My shoes were white and clean, and my hair was topped with a golden
crown
-
- I handed Leah the gift that I had received
- Suddenly my pains and aches were relieved
- I entered slowly, for now I was able to walk
- No chair to make me go, I was in complete shock
- I met the man that was standing outside
- I met the man that give the best gift of all,
-
- inside Jesus greeted me and hugged me tight
- “You will not have any pain here tonight”
- I have many gifts inside waiting along with your plan
- A new pair of shoes and Mommy a stewing pan
- I’ve prepared crackers and tomato soup
- a pretty new ribbon and a hot pink hulla-hoop
-
- Praise the Lord from the earth, fire and hail, snow and clouds;
- stormy wind, fulfilling His word. Psalm 148: 7-8
