PUBLISHmyPOEMonLINE.com donates 10% of its income to Tree Aid (UK Charity No. 296708)
Since 1987 Tree Aid has worked with hundreds of village communities in some of the world's poorest countries. In these African drylands local people traditionally rely on trees to provide them with essential shade, berries, fruit, nuts and leaves for food and medicine, as well as wood for building homes and cooking. Deforestation destroys all of these vital resources and leads to soil erosion by wind and flash floods, threatening crop production, food supplies and ultimately the lives of millions.
Chief of Silmiougou village, Burkina Faso: 'If there were no trees around our village it would be the end of us... you are right to think trees are very important and it is good to know that people over there are thinking of us and our difficulties.' Zoe Wanamaker, actress and Tree Aid patron: 'There are no quick fixes in fighting poverty in Africa's drylands and restoring trees is one of the best things that the villagers there can do to bring about long term change.' |
